You will often hear people say that do what you love and the money will follow. This is great in theory but in reality there are certain careers with the highest pay and those are the ones you should be aiming for if you want to get paid well.

According to a survey conducted by the Bureau of Labor, show that certain white-collar jobs averaged $21.85 per hour, and these were the highest paid jobs in the country. The careers with the highest pay usually require a four-year college degree.

Here is a list of the top 12 careers with the highest pay according to a survey conducted by the Employment Policy Foundation:

  • Physicians and surgeons
  • Aircraft pilots
  • Chief Executives
  • Electrical and electronic engineers
  • Lawyers and judges
  • Dentists
  • Pharmacists
  • Management analysts
  • Computer and information system managers
  • Financial analysts, managers and advisors
  • Marketing and sales managers
  • Education administrators

The above mentioned occupations require advanced college degrees. There are also high paying jobs that do not require high school diploma and they are as follows:

  • Industrial production managers
  • Bailiffs, correctional officers and jailers
  • Drafters

However, there is no doubt that you will earn more money if you have a college education. A person who has a professional degree is expected to earn $3 million over the course of his working life. In contrast, a person without a high school diploma will end up earning less than $1 million over his working life.
