One is the older age group who are above the age of 50 and are getting rejected because of their age, and the other is the under age group who fall below twenty and even they get rejected due to the age factor. Both the ends of the spectrum suffer due to unemployment. The statistics from the job bureaus claim that the job discrimination claims has risen by 9 percent across the United States last year. It is the highest increment in the decade.
According to economists the reason behind the cases is lay offs on one hand and unemployment concentrated in just one sector of people. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission claims that nearly 80 percent of the people who file discrimination claims are either above 50 years or below 24 years. Some people are even filing under the gender discrimination and the name of race. Due to the trend, employers are falling under constant scrutiny and they are using alternative methods of hiring. They go through only references so that they have to interview fewer candidates. Also, employer prefers hiring based on their choice rather than advertising for it and inviting many people. This way they can even keep the job openings discrete.
Hopefully, with the changing times and improving economy, the discrimination cases may go down. Most experts believe that this is not going to be a permanent trend and the changing economy can actually end job discrimination.
