Crude oil distillery products mainly comprise of refinery gas, ethane, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), motor gasoline, jet fuels, kerosene, gas oil, diesel oil, heavy fuel oil, naphtha, white spirit, lubricants, bitumen, paraffin waxes and petroleum coke.
All crude oil distillery products are oil-based which are obtained on distillation and are used outside the refining industry. However, there is an exception which is known as refinery feedstock. The feedstock is used in the petroleum industry to make tens of thousands of products like plastics. The refineries also produce gasoline and heating oil for cars and home.
Another crude oil distillery product is aviation gasoline. This is a motor spirit and is especially prepared for aviation piston engines. This gasoline has a freezing point of -60 degrees centigrade and the distillation range is usually within 30 degrees centigrade and 180 degrees centigrade.
Heavy fuel oil residual defines oils that make up the distillation residue. This is made up of all residual fuel oils including those that are obtained by blending. The density of this oil is more than 900 kg/l and its flash point is always above 50 degrees centigrade.
Besides all the above crude oil distillery products, the refining process also manufactures industrial spirit. This is a light oil of narrower cut than motor spirit. It comes in 7 to 8 grades depending on the position of the cut in the distillation range.
