Who-Controls-Gas-Prices      In May 2008, the average gas prices in the United States approached the $4 mark while in some places it crossed it. Gasoline is the bloodline of America that keeps it moving and working. That is why tracking gas prices is very important but it can make you feel as you are riding the roller coaster. However, the one question that everyone is asking: Who controls the gas prices? More..

What Can We Do About Gas Prices ?

One of the reasons why gas prices go up is because buyers and sellers bid up prices supplies get close to demand. At the moment gas prices are so high that one had not even imagined that they would have to $4 for a gallon.

What can we do about gas prices? Well, you can do something. For starters, you can use less gas. Even a relatively small reduction in the demand can have a very large impact on gas prices. So, if you are serious about wanting to do something about gas prices, you can try the following steps at no cost whatsoever.

Drive Sensibly:

Many drivers step on the accelerator the moment the light changes and then cruise at top speed until the very last moment before hitting the brakes at the stop sign. Just because your vehicle can got from 0 to 60 mph in 7 seconds does not mean that you have to test it out every time you drive.  You can save 5 to 33 percent of gas by driving sensibly.

Slow Down:

This does not mean that you should drive at a snail’s pace. It means driving within the speed limit or a little bit over it. There is no speed for getting optimum mileage from a car. It varies from one car to the next. However, if your car has a tachometer, you should try to keep it as low as possible in the highest gear. This way you will get the best mileage. You gas mileage will drop significantly once the speed of your car goes beyond 60 mph. By cutting down your speed you will be able to save anywhere between 7 percent and 23 percent of gas depending on how you drive.
