Here is a list of highest rate for high interest savings account that are offered by some of the better known financial institutions and banks in the United States:
- HSBC Direct
offers 3.50 percent APY, no fees, web interface. $1 minimum to open. The APY rate is temporary and will be valid only until August 15, 2008 after which the rate will become variable.
- Washington Mutual offers 3.30 percent APY on a special savings account that requires a $1 minimum to open. This account must be opened in conjunction with a WaMu Free Checking account. The accounts must be linked. If you close the checking account, you lose the 3.30 percent rate.
- E*TRADE Bank
offers 3.15 percent APY, no fees, an automatic savings plan. $1 minimum to open.
- Savings Square offers 3.05 percent APY, no fees. $1 minimum to open. It offers just online electronic interface only.
- ING Direct offers 3.00 percent APY, no fees, an automatic savings plan, web interface. No minimum.
- GMAC Bank offers 3.00 percent APY, checks, ATM card. $500 minimum. Fees on balances below $500.
- Countrywide Bank offers a variable rate from 3.00 percent to 3.65 percent APY. $1,000 minimum to open. Rate is 3.00 percent on balances below $10,000.
Besides these, there are many other banks offering high interest savings account. All you need to do is look for them and then open your account. Remember, online accounts will invariably have higher interest rates compared to normal savings accounts.
