Online Banking Security

All online banks take online banking security very seriously. Each bank has its own security procedures and policies that are always posted prominently on the website. Following the online banking security procedures stipulated by your bank is a must if you want to protect yourself from fraud and identity theft.

Online Banking Security:
You should be extremely careful when you receive unsolicited emails asking you to disclose your online banking password and PIN. Under no circumstances you should give out this information to anyone. Be very cautious about disclosing your personal information to people you do not know and all banks will never contact you to you to disclose your PIN or password.

Never respond to emails that offer you the chance to make easy money. If it is too good to be true, it probably is. This is especially true for unsolicited emails that come from overseas as it is much harder to prove legitimacy of the organizations behind the email.

It is important that you use an up-to-date antivirus software and a firewall to protect your computer from hackers and malware. If you have the tendency to access your online bank account from Internet cafes, be extra vigilant. In addition, you should regularly use a software to remove spyware from your computer. A spyware records information about your internet use and transmits it without your permission.

It is quite easy to have your identity stolen online and offline. It is important that you follow the online bank’s instructions and destroy your PIN number and expired bank cards. Do not keep any personal information stored in your computer. It is best to store sensitive information in a suitably locked container which is fireproof.

Make sure that when you access your online bank account, your session is secure. You can find this out by checking the URL of your bank’s website. It will always be https://. The other indicator of a secure website is the digital certificate represented by a padlock or key at the right hand bottom corner of your computer screen. If you double click the icon, it will give you information about organization with which you have entered into.

Once you finish accessing your online bank account, make sure you log off completely from your internet banking session. Just closing the window will not suffice. Disconnect your computer from the internet if you are not planning to use it for some time.
